what does the K in K-mart actually stand for?
Kmart or K-Mart is one of the largest discount stores, not just in the U.S. but in the whole world as well, just falling behind the ever-popular Wal-Mart and Target. It is tagged as a discount store because this type of department store sells products at prices much lower than those products priced by traditional retail outlets. If you have not ever been to a K-Mart and you are an American, then I do not know what to call you. But where did the name K-Mart came from? The founder of this discount department store chain is Sebastian Spering Kresge and it was from his last name, Kresge, where K-Mart’s name was derived from. But it was not until Sebastian Spering Kresge died in 1966 that the store chain changed its name to K-Mart or Kmart from the former name of the store which is just Kresge. So now that you know the K in K-Mart, you won’t be assuming any meaning anymore of the K in K-mart every time you visit the store, whether in the U.S., Guam, Puerto Rico, Australia or New Zealand.
